Based on the Surrey border on the outskirts of Farnham, Erika enjoys walking and spending time outdoors, observing and drawing inspiration from the English countryside—its landscapes, plants, and natural shapes and patterns.

Having enjoyed creative activities from a young age—spending hours experimenting with different techniques and encouraged by inspirational teachers—she naturally followed her passion by studying for a teaching degree at Exeter University, specialising in Art. & Design. She then went on to share her love of art through many years of teaching.

Her artwork begins with a colour scheme and a compositional idea, with details often inspired by fabric designers of the Arts and Crafts period. Her paintings are primarily acrylic-based: she uses acrylic spray paints to sketch out compositions and block in colour, then overpaints to build detail and texture.

Each artwork is planned out with an ideas board but once started takes on a journey of exploration and problem solving which may lead her in a completely different directions…
