Bringing colour into our lives can transform the way we feel and experience the world around us. With this in mind, I recently completed my latest collection of four oil paintings titled 'A Pop of Colour'. This series celebrates the power of bold hues and dynamic contrasts to evoke happiness & joy.

The Inspiration Behind 'A Pop of Colour'
Colour has always fascinated me as a medium for expression. For this collection, I wanted to explore how a limited number of oils could deliver a powerful visual impact by focusing on intense, contrasting colours.
The idea came from observing floral bouquets & garden arrangements where a single bright element stands out against a more muted background— this is especially noticable in a spring garden. These moments of contrast caught my attention and inspired me to capture that feeling of surprise and delight on canvas.
Techniques Used to Create Vibrance
To achieve the vividness in this collection, I employed several techniques that enhance the oils’ natural luminosity:
Using complementary colours: Placing colours opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as blue and orange or red and green, intensifies their appearance.
Textural contrasts: Combining smooth, blended areas with thick, impasto strokes adds depth and interest.
Selective detailing: Focusing sharp details on key colour spots while keeping other areas as block colours to provide impact.
